Dr. Irfan Saadi leads the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research Lab, studying the molecular mechanisms underlying embryonic morphogenesis and congenital anomalies. In particular, Dr Saadi, has multiple funded projects related to the study and prevention of cleft palate. His collaboration is primarily related to recent cutting edge sequential in vivo and in utero MRI of mouse palate development.

Hoglund Brain Imaging Center, Kansas City, KS.

MRI scans for the joint injury research are taken at the Hoglund Brain Imaging Center at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. HBIC houses a 3T Siemens Allegra head-only MRI system that is capable of high resolution structural and functional MRI, MR spectroscopy, and diffusion and perfusion imaging. Complementing this human system is a 9.4T Varian MRI system for animal studies.

Experience in a wide range of orthopedic subspecialties has been developed in the department, including pediatric orthopedics spine surgery, sports medicine, hand and microvascular surgery, foot and ankle surgery, adult reconstruction, and musculoskeletal oncology.

Human Neuromuscular Control & Biomechanical Systems Lab, Lawrence, KS.

Dr. Wilson conducts research in the neuromuscular control of human motion using engineering principles from control theory and dynamics. She has studied the effects of occupational exposures such as vibration on the lumbar spine and low back disorders. She is also involved in the development of medical devices used in physical therapy, obstetrics and internal medicine. Her collaboration is primarily related to sensing systems for wheelchair safety as an assistive device.

Equine Services is a part of the Veterinary Health Center which is a full service veterinary hospital associated with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. The Veterinary Health Center also employs several researchers who focus on both human and animal diseases.

North Carolina A&T - Department of Chemical, Biological and Bioengineering, Greensboro, NC.

North Carolina A&T was the first HBCU to receive an Engineering Research Center (ERC). Their ERC has three primary focuses: Craniofacial and Orthopedic Applications, Cardiovascular Devices, and Responsive Biosensors for Implants. North Carolina A&T also graduates the largest number of African American engineers in the country.

The Preclinical Surgical Research Lab (PSRL) specializes in preclinical research related to soft tissues and in-vivo orthopedics. The PSRL works with both small and large animal models in applications that include (but are not limited to) bone healing, osteochondral and cartilage defect testing, wound reconstruction/healing, and osteoporosis.

The DVD-guided mental practice study is being conducted in collaboration with Drs. Wen Liu and Patricia Kluding in the Dept. of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the KU Medical Center. The department has expertise and equipment for functional evaluation, including the InMotion2 robot in the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory.
